Anguzu Aswa and Tutu Desmond are First A-level GreenMango Scholars

The GreenMango Interview Team with an interviewee (R-L): Atikuru Dora, Franklin Draku, Lillian Obiale and Omviti Nixon
Winners of the inaugural WENIRUDA-GreenMango Scholarships will return to school with a million Ugandan shillings this year. The scholarships promote academic excellence in the West Nile region of Uganda by recognizing its brightest students. The applicants went through a rigorous selection process that included academic performance as primary criterion.
We started out with eighty-five students and only two would become the inaugural A-level GreenMango Scholars: Anguzu Aswa of Arua Public secondary school and Tutu Desmond of Ombaci secondary school. What did it take to win the award? Forty-two applicants obtained the minimum A-level examination score required to apply for a GreenMango scholarship. We reviewed the essays written by students with the twenty best examination scores. The essays narrowed down the number of candidates to six finalists, whom we invited for oral interviews at the WENIRUDA office in Arua. Anguzu and Tutu, because of their outstanding combination of grades, essays, and interview performance ultimately won GreenMango scholarships. Finally, the interviews revealed aspects of the candidates that grades and assays alone could not, their stories of tribulation and triumph. We have selected a few to share with you. Read more»
