Imelde and Ben First GreenMango Scholars
Winners of the inaugural WENIRUDA-GreenMango Scholarships will return to school with a million Ugandan shillings this year. The scholarships promote academic excellence in the West Nile region of Uganda by recognizing its brightest students. The applicants went through a rigorous selection process that included academic performance as primary criterion.
Kawambe Imelde of Muni girls’ secondary school and Amayubo Ben of St. Joseph’s college Ombaci topped the list of the best senior four students from the region. Imelde and Ben scored outstanding 13 and 15 aggregate points respectively, the top in West Nile and one of the best in Uganda.
Besides academic triumph, GreenMango looks for the student’s understanding and concern for issues afflicting the region. Thus, the applicants also submitted essays addressing specific questions relevant to West Nile. Ten students ultimately participated in oral interviews conducted by WENIRUDA staff.
